According to the latest report of Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), 80% of Pakistan’s population is forced to drink polluted and unhealthy water. Of the water samples collected from 2807 wells in 24 districts across the country, 69 to 82% of the samples have been found to be contaminated and harmful to health. According to the report, water pollution was caused due to the presence of bacteria, toxic metals, turbidity, harmful elements nitrate and fluoride dissolved in the water. In the water samples obtained from most of the areas, the number of harmful compounds was found to be as high as 69%, while the amount of metals harmful to health in the water samples obtained from some areas was 24% and the rate of turbidity was up to 14%. Therefore, there is a need to realize the fragility of time and situation and the government should solve these problems on a priority basis. Muhammad Zaheer Awan (Shaheed) Welfare Trust (Registered) started efforts to provide clean drinking water to the people of Havelian neighborhood Nara Astora and adjacent villages and population as per their capacity. Among them, there were many villages where drinking water had to be filled in utensils from a distance of 3 – 5 kilometers. Muhammad Zaheer Awan (Shaheed) Welfare Trust (Registered) started their work from the native of Dr. Muhammad Zaheer Awan i .e. Thesi where the supply of clean drinking water was the most important issue at that time. Muhammad Zaheer Awan (Shaheed) Welfare Trust (Registered) constructed a bore there at a cost of 40,000 and met the need of clean drinking water for the entire population. After starting from there, so far 10 projects have been completed on clean drinking water event and more will be done in future.
